The jewelry worn can be used with the teeth and the gums come in contact, which can permanently damage the tooth enamel and cause degeneration of the gums. Improper placement of the piercing, the salivary gland are taken under the tongue. As with other piercings in the mouth opening can be swallowed jewelry. There is also the danger that the jewelry is rejected by the body and grows out over a longer period of time.
