The Daith it is a piercing which is only in the 1990s, spread with the increasing popularization of body piercings as fashion jewelry.

The term "Daith" derives from the Hebrew word Daath (knowledge) from. The word goes back to the Da'at, a concept from the Kabbalah, the mystical tradition of Judaism and refers to a member of the Sephiroth, the ten divine emanations.

A customer of the U.S. piercers Erik Dakota from California, should have given the piercing, which it developed jointly with Dakota, that name. The name alludes to the fact that implementing special ability and skill are required. To motivate the customer to have to bite this piercing, and spiritual reasons were given with reference to Hinduism.

Together with the Apadydoe, the Rook and the Industrial piercing, which will also go back to Dakota, the Daith piercing first time in 1992 in Body Play magazine Fakir Musafar was publicly presented.
